Baseball in Mattoon

Mattoon Baseball Park

aka Mattoon Ball Park

Mattoon Baseball Park hosted Mattoon's ISL, MOVL, and MWL teams from 1947 through 1957. I have little information about this park. Although Mattoon is full of ballyards, this one was apparently demolished shortly after its last minor league game.

This was the park's location. The structure on the west side of the scrap yard may be the remnant of the third base grandstand.

Mattoon Baseball Park hosted the Illinois State League All-Star Game in 1948 and the second Mississippi-Ohio Valley League All-Star Game in 1950.

The Midwest League plays Single-A, professional baseball in America's agricultural and industrial heartland. 16 teams play a 140 game schedule which begins in early April and ends Labor Day weekend.
