Midwest League Managers

Juan Bustabad

Juan Bustabad

Two Midwest League seasons, plus 2009:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Red Sox, first round (January, second phase; first selection), 1980 (Shortstop, Miami-Dade North CC)
    • First round selection (fifth overall) by Oakland in June, 1979; did not sign.
  • Professional Career: Ten minor league seasons, mainly in the higher classifications, mostly in the Red Sox organization.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the Midwest League.

Management style

Bustabad's a pretty conservative manager. The sole exceptions have been his Kane County and Great Lakes summers. if you should find Quincy Foster in your lineup, you should likely play to that strength, which he did, while the Great Lakes team was weak enough to justify relatively risky playing tactics. Year in, year out, Bustabad's teams have been pretty successful.
