Midwest League Managers

Keith Champion

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Cardinals; unknown, 1982 (Catcher).
  • Professional Career: Three seasons in the Cardinals organization (evidently he went by Randall [Randy?] at that time).
  • Midwest League: Played at Springfield in 1984.

Management style

Champion was basically a conventional manager. His teams were pretty aggressive on the basepaths, and they issued a few more intentional walks than most.

Champion's responsibilities as Special Assistant to Chicago's GM were predominantly major league scouting.

The Midwest League plays Single-A, professional baseball in America's agricultural and industrial heartland. 16 teams play a 140 game schedule which begins in early April and ends Labor Day weekend.
