Midwest League Managers

Cal Emery

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Phillies, free agent, 1958 (Penn State University)
  • Professional Career: Fourteen professional seasons, mostly in the Phillies system; also spent a year in Japan. Appeared in 16 major league games for the Phils in 1963.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the Midwest League.

Management style

Emery was a pretty conventional minor league manager. Early in his career, he called for a lot of intentional walks and sacrifice bunts, but those tendencies subsided with experience.
