Midwest League Managers

Duane Espy

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Brewers, 7th round (June regular phase), 1970 (2B, Santa Monica HS)
  • Professional Career: Eight professional seasons for the Brewers; played basically at every level in the system.
  • Midwest League: Played for Danville in 1971 & 1972.

Management style

Espy probably over-managed, but his teams must have been fun to watch play. They ran wild on the basepaths, and he was pretty likely to call for a sacrifice. He was unusually stingy with intentional passes, and was (for his era) pretty likely to go to the bullpen.
