Midwest League Managers

Terry Francona

One Midwest League season:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Expos, first round sandwich pick, 1980 (Outfielder, University of Arizona where Francona won several national player-of-the-year awards)
  • Professional Career: Ten major league players, usually as a spare outfielder or first baseman, about half of them for the Expos.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the Midwest League.

Management style

All in all, Francona's management style has to be called conservative. His teams don't bunt, his starters rarely finish games, and he only lets exceptional runners steal bases.

My standard sources are described here.

The Midwest League plays Single-A, professional baseball in America's agricultural and industrial heartland. 16 teams play a 140 game schedule which begins in early April and ends Labor Day weekend.
