Midwest League Managers

Mike Goff

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Red Six, 21st round (June draft), 1984 (Second base, University of Alabama, Birmingham)
  • Professional Career: Four years in the Red Sox system, including a stint at the Double-A level. Spent the fifth year (1988) on the disabled list with an back injury, and retired.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the Midwest League.

Management style

Goff was a "little game" manager in his earlier managerial stint--he liked bunts, and liked intentional walks. His minor league teams weren't just aggressive on the basepaths--they were pretty reckless. For a 1990s minor league manager, he was pretty likely to let a starter complete a ballgame. It's not yet clear whether he still does these things, though it looks a bit like he still leans that way.
