Midwest League Managers

Orlando Gomez

Juan Gomez

One Midwest League season:

Playing Career

  • Signed: Yankees, free agent, 1964 (catcher)
  • Professional Career: 13 years in the minors, mainly in the Oakland organization. (Then known as Juan Gomez.)
  • Midwest League: Played at Burlington in 1967, 1969, and 1972.

Management style

Orlando Gomez was a fairly conventional manager; he was perhaps a bit more prone to issue intentional walks and to have his hitters bunt than most minor league managers. Gomez appears to have been an early convert to the practice of holding pitchers to strict pitch counts.
