Midwest League Managers

Mike Jirschele

One Midwest League season:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Rangers, 5th round, 1977 (shortstop, Clinton [Wisconsin] HS).
  • Professional Career: Twelve minor league seasons, mostly in the high minors (includes a few odd outings while coaching).
  • Midwest League: Played for Wausau in 1979, and appeared briefly for Appleton (where he was coaching) in 1990.

Management style

Jirschele's always been a pretty conservative manager. Except for his 1993 (Rockford) and 1994 (Wilmington) teams, both of which included Johnny Damon, he's tended not to let his players run. Intentional walks and sac bunts are not really part of his arsenal.
