Midwest League Managers

Paul Kirsch

Four Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Not known. (Played college ball at the University of Oregon, where his father had been a legendary coach.)
  • Professional Career: Seven minor league seasons; four years with independent teams in the Northwest League, then 3 seasons in the Cincinnati organization. Played Double-A ball at Waterbury.
  • Midwest League: Played for Cedar Rapids in 1982.

Management style

Kirsch's pitchers rarely issued intentional walks and were not expected to pitch complete games. He taught the running game; his baserunners were far more successful than is usual at the low levels of professional ball.

The Midwest League plays Single-A, professional baseball in America's agricultural and industrial heartland. 16 teams play a 140 game schedule which begins in early April and ends Labor Day weekend.
