Midwest League Managers

Tom Lawless

Five Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Reds, 17th round, 1978 (Shortstop/Second Base, Penn State University)
  • Professional Career: Major league journeyman: Reds, Expos, Cards, and Blue Jays. Lawless is fondly remembered by Cardinals fans for a home run in the 1987 World Series; in 1984 he was traded even-up for Pete Rose so the Reds could make Rose their player/manager.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the Midwest League.

Management style

Lawless is an aggressive manager. He gives out a lot of intentional passes by MWL standards, calls for lots of bunts, and likes to see his baserunners steal.
