Midwest League Managers

Dave Machemer

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: California Angels, 4th round, 1972 (Shortstop; Central Michigan University).
  • Professional Career: 11 minor league seasons, mostly at the Triple-A level. Appeared in 29 AL games for the Angels and Tigers.
  • Midwest League: Played for Quad Cities in 1973.

Management style

Machemer's base stealing practices change from year to year, likely depending on the available talent. Most seasons his team's been among the league leaders in sacrifice bunts. Machemer's pitchers have always had fairly low pitch limits.

On the whole, this managing career's got to be called quite successful.

My standard sources are described here.

  • My thanks to Dave Machemer for pointing out a couple typos--and for taking them well....
  • This page differs somewhat from the biographical information posted on the Giants' website. I'm reasonably sure this page is more nearly correct....
