Midwest League Managers

Joe Maddon

One Midwest League season:

Manager, Peoria [Angels] (1984)

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Free agent, California Angels, 1976 (catcher).
  • Professional Career: Four years in the Angels organization, mostly in the California League.
  • Midwest League: Played for Quad Cities in 1976.

Management style

Maddon is a generally conservative manager, though he's sometimes let a good baserunner have his head.

Some sources, including Maddon's biography on the D'Rays team website, credit him with an 8-game interim manager stint in 1998 which is not recorded in other sources. Presumably this is a matter of rules interpretation, not of fact.
