Midwest League Managers

Sal Rende

Two Midwest League seasons:

Playing Career

  • Drafted/Signed: Cleveland Indians, 28th round, 1977 (First Baseman, St. Xavier [IL] College)
  • Professional Career: Seven minor league seasons in the Cleveland organization, mostly at Chattanooga, with several brief appearances at the Triple-A level.
  • Midwest League: Never played in the MWL.

Management style

This is an interesting manager. Rende never much liked intentional walks, and was less likely than most managers to call for a sacrifice bunt. The baserunning measures for this manager are quite inconsistent, and suggest that Rende let his third base coaches make those decisions without any regard to their impact on game strategy.

Rende's early managerial successes were followed by a string of so-so Triple A seasons....
