Notes, Issues, Sources, and Mysteries

  • Based on the (dreadful) box score in the 1995 Midwest League Yearbook, with some help from the game accounts in the July 19, 1966, editions of the Cedar Rapids Gazette and the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern. The All-Star team selections were published in the Daily Northwestern of July 9.
  • The All-Stars committed two errors, contributing to the game's sole run, in the third.
  • Al Ronning of Burlington managed the All-Stars, and Ron Plaza (Cedar Rapids) coached. There may have been other coaches. I trust the normal Fox Cities coaching staff worked that side of the diamond.
  • Bob von Epps was selected as game MVP.
  • Pitcher Sal Campisi, second baseman Joe Arcia (both of Cedar Rapids) were selected to the All-Star team but didn't appear in the game. There may have been other pitchers selected, since my source only lists position players.
