All-Star Game

All-Stars 6, Iowa Oaks 2

Davenport (Quad City), Monday, July 14, 1975

The 1975 Midwest League All-Star Game was played at John O'Donnell Stadium in Davenport on July 14, 1975. A team of the league's best players, selected by the league's managers and sports writers, faced the American Association's Iowa Oaks.

The All-Star pitchers stopped the Iowa hitters, who didn't get a hit until the eighth or a run until the ninth. Quad Cities pitcher Jim Dorsey got the win, while Dan Larson took the loss for the Oaks. Charlie Beamon and Steve Plut both had strong days at the plate for the Stars.

Notes, Issues, Sources, and Mysteries

  • Based on the box score in the 1995 Midwest League Yearbook, with help from the game accounts in the July 15, 1975, editions of the Burlington Hawk-Eye, and the Des Moines Register; the Register included the box score. The team selections were published in the July 3 edition of the the Register; I found a roster update in the July 9 Stevens Point Journal.
  • Waterloo Manager John Sullivan led the All-Star squad, with coaching assistance from Bobby Knoop of Quad Cities and Bart Shirley of Danville.
  • No official game MVP was selected.
  • Selected, but did not play: Kevin Bell (IF, Appleton; promoted), Terry Puhl (OF, Danville), Pat Kelly (C, Quad Cities; promoted), Gary Williams (P, Waterloo), Lynn McKinney (P, Waterloo; promoted), Tom Lantz (P, Clinton), Mitch Bobinger (P, Danville), & Jose Alfaro (P, Dubuque).
